stuck in the midwest
I'll be spending some time in your fair city at the end of the month and am looking for a nice seafood/fresh fish restaurant In Vancouver area. Cost is not a limiting factor as long as the quality is good. I will have a car so location shouldn't be a limiting factor either. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Also looking for a nice place to stay, maybe in the 100-200 dollar range. From the impression I get your going to pay more to stay downtown, something that is not that important to me. I just as soon put the money into a nicer place that might be away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Hello there!

For fresh fish or seafood, you can check out Kettle of Fish on Pacific Boulevard downtown or the Cannery in the Eastside or maybe even Joe Forte's. Haven't been to Fortes in a while so not sure what is on the menu. It is located right off Robson and Thurlow right downtown. I think that should help a bit. In regards to a hotel that depends on what type of hotel you are looking to stay at, what part of town, and of course price. Try and be a little more specific. Oh and I almost forgot the Sandbar on Granville Island and Bridges!!

Happy hunting!

imho you are better off downtown ... some nice places in the west end etc, and be able to walk than to drive across town and then have to find and pay for parking and all that rot ... if you do want to drive somewhere from downtown, it is easier to get out than in ...

the other thing is if you are d/t then if you want to hit some places and drink, you don't have a long drive back to your hotel ... you can walk, take a short cab ride etc ... the LE are really cracking down on drinking and driving ...

and while the skytrain can be fun ... if you really have to be someplace then it can be a pain as well ... its fine for getting from here to there but i stayed out in new west once and took the skytrain and it just made the whole experience less enjoyable ... and driving was worse!

one place to consider is the granville island hotel ... nice place, rates okay, and there is a world class chef school nearby that serves phenomenal meals for reasonable prices ... plus you get the whole market for food and ladies to check out ... false creek is a sight itself and you can walk to kits along the water ... bring your trunks there's outdoor swimming at kits!

If you're driving, I would avoid staying downtown or in the west-end. You will save a few bucks and a lot of headaches battling with traffic. If you're interested in siteseeing Vancouver by Skytrain, then the Metrotown area is good place to stay. There's a Holiday Inn that's a short walk to the Metrotown Skytrain station. If you don't mind the walking, the Skytrain trip will get you downtown faster than driving. It also saves you the problem of finding parking downtown.

As for seafood restaurants, Cannery is one of the best. I also like Dave's Fish & Chips.
