Dave Nonis you are an idiot. You sign Cloutier for 3 million USD for next season, and if the new cba has a 31 million dollar USD salary cap then you are fucked as you will either have to ask some players to take a pay cut OR move players as the NHL is losing A ton of money in the U.S. and you are over paying this guy who has only won 1 playoff round(and if the Blues didn't catch the flu in that series the Canucks would have lost.) Dan Cloutier is Not worth 3 million, he is NOT better then, Roberto Luongo, Robert Eche or Mikka Kippersoff all those guys make less than Cloutier. I've met Dan and he's a nice guy BUT he is NOT worth that much money as he is not even healthy, so you don't know how many games you will get out of him. www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=92569

I agree they won't ever win a thing with him in net.......I can only surmise that maybe he figured that arbitration being an up in the air kinda thing Cloutier maybe would of got more, and then they would walk away from him and get nothing where this way they sign him but trade him. Please let that be the case for you Canuck fans cause he sucks!!

Dan Cloutier on the Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Dallas Stars, Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils and the list goes on and on is not good enough to be the starting goalie on these teams, he is a big fish on a small pond. If he went to arbitration an got 3 million a year NO team would of signed this guy because they know with a new cba on the horizon, and the fact he can't get the job done in the playoffs they won't pay Cloutier that kind of money because he's not worth it, Nonis is a FOOL for over paying Cloutier, they should of saved the money and signed Brendan Morrison and got a back up for Auldy.

Stupid move

looks like Brian Burke wasn't the only one who was always sucking on cloutier's hockey stick.

They could of gotten a decent veteran backup and made auld the starter, while at the same time getting a good FA to play with the sedins, and a much-needed stay-at-home d-man

Toskkla out of San Jose would have been an excellent choice to come to Vancouver and compete with Auldy for the # 1 job. Dan Cloutier, also isn't good enough to be the #1 goalie with the San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Mighty Ducks, St. Louis Blues, Minnesota Wild or even the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings and the Nashville Predators. Once again I've met Dan Cloutier before and he's a super nice guy BUT there is a reason he signed with the Canucks last night because he knew no other team would sign him and nobody want's him for 3 million USD a year.

was it really nonis' decision or was it mccaw's? the latter signs the cheques so he must have had some say so in the matter ... can't see nonis making such a bad deal on his first foray out on his own.

clouthier, unfortunately, also seems to have a lot of support among the players for some reason ... maybe because he plays so bad they don't have to play so good and he can take the blame.

i was hoping that auld would get the nod to start because he was good for coming in cold into the playoffs and keeping the team alive. a whole season to play and get the confidence up would have been great (assuming there is a season).

well, at least we know where the nucks season is headed ... nowhere again.

This is Dave Nonis decision all the way, he loves Danny. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that Dan Cloutier couldn't be the # 1 goalie with the Chicago Blackhawks, New York Islanders and the Phoenix Coyotes too.

my 2 cents,

All of the Nuck's coaches and GM's were fired mostly caused by the goalies...

DAMN!

You got my hopes up.
When I first saw the title, I thought that Cloutier had retired (resigned)
as opposed to re-signing.

:(

I think Dan's got many Vancouver Canucks organization admirers.. including Burk, Nonis, Crow..., we will have to wait and see when Cloutier's going to cost Crow's job...

This will be Cloutier's last chance as Nonis signed him on a 1 year contract, If he has a great regular seson this year and has another meltdown in the playoffs, Nonis will have to let him go, as he will go to arbitration next year and probably be awarded 4 million depending how the new cba looks.

still, I don't think Cloutier should be given that many chances...

It was because of Cloutier, Hebert is gone, Skudra is gone, Essesa is gone...He is a failure...only a regular season performer, not a playoff quality goalie...

Nonis made the biggest mistake since took over as GM, maybe he got advise from Burky? One more year of failure, and the players are getting one more year older..., when the cup is coming to town..??? holly sh#t..

The biggest mistake the Canucks made was letting Klatter go!! You need those kind of guys in the playoffs, the Canucks are a finess team without hard working guys like Trent. The Canucks low balled Klatter on a contract and he left. I told my season ticket rep when renewing my tickets and he now says the Canucks should of kept him, last year he said Klatter had nothing left. Klatt has alot left and the Canucks were fools for letting him go.

Totally.....they could of used him big time not just for his work ethic but his influence in the dressing room between periods. It's another example the only one who should of been going to the airport is Burke!!
