Not that any 17 year old deserved to have their life ruined by one stupid mistake but I hope they atleast kick his ass off any Team Canada he might be on and cancel his scholarship.
That plus a few days in the pokey being some gangsta's bitch will rehabilitate him I'm sure. :thumb:

I will say I agree with his father that the picture is "misleading". NOT! What freakin' photo are you talking about Dad? The one showing your kid trying to light a rag stuck into the gas tank of a cop car.
You guys DO have some great weed out in BC and Dad's been smoking it.

Hmmm, that's so sad. But it is also soooooo common, the coaches and support this kid has been given has been wasted.

There's alot of very talented kids out there and the schools and coaches and mentors and volunteer parents try and get these kids to scholarships and a bigger better future and with no support at home they end up living 2 lives, partying and playing hard and also showing up at 5am practice the next morning cause its what they love, and want more than what there parents have in life.

I wish more people took parenting much more seriously. It's not a choice, if you decide to bring a person into this world you sure as hell better make sure they're not a burden to society.

I think if you singled out every instigator at the riot, rules, morals and just any kind of respect was never taught at home. And once these people find each other they feed off each other and boom. The city's on fire. Very lord of the flies'ish, Love that book!

Whew.. feelin feisty this morning! Where's my vibrator!

Well, I am firmly in the camp that if you get involved with public rioting and get caught you will have the full weight of the law thrown at you.

Destruction of property, looting, public fighting and disobeying police instructions to leave the area immediately needs to be dealt with harshly.

These punks created a very unsafe situation for anyone who happened to be in the area last Wednesday night. Why should they get a mere slap on the wrist? Millions of dollars of damage, peoples businesses shut down and some will not get a cent in insurance money because rioting is not covered.

I am disgusted with anyone who put a black eye on our city and have zero compassion if they fucked up their lives as a result.

I don't feel one iota of sympathy for these little pricks! I was young once & i did a lot of stupid things & when i got caught, my dad made me man up & take my lumps(thanks dad).As far being on a water polo team? Thats the 1st thing my dad would have taken away, there has to be consequences to our actions & more than just a time out.

I believe he should face the consequences. He should be kicked off the team and loose his scholarship. For star athelete they should know better as they are role models to the younger generation.

Fuck the mob mentality, if I got a group of 1000 people and tied up a person and gave you a gun and point it at his head and have everyone cheering would you pull the trigger. The answer is probably not. You are not that dumb regardless of how old you are.

Yup the scholarshipp can go to somebody a little more deserving.
Absolutely and let's not omit that scholarships are partially funded by us the tax payer too.

Losing a scholarship (for water polo??) and getting kicked off the team is not going to ruin his life.

It might sharpen up his decision-making skills.

He goes to a private school and has a surgeon dad? He'll be fine, don't worry about his life being ruined. A few good lawyers and it'll be like he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time.

First hes from Maple Ridge. Like most of these vandals they are from outside the city. Second he's probably a rich kid who had everything handed to him. No values plus bad parenting = this little fucker. Note to parents. RAISE YOUR KIDS PROPERLY!!!

Silky back already? That has to be a record. Considering that you pimp and you push drugs, telling parents to raise the kids properly is a little hypocritical no?
Where were your parents when you needed them?

I agree that losing his scholarship and place on the team won't ruin his life.

However you've missed the "public hanging via social media" aspect, that will.

Even murderers don't carry that around with them, only a handful would know what they did after the punishment is over.

People are using the internet to harrass these punks families, affect their business by smearing on review sites etc, home and business addresses have been shared around with talk of mobs going round to "sort them out".

You could say that its the families fault for raising idiots, but from what I can gather some of them are just decent kids caught up in the moment and doing bad shit no more than most of us did growing up (though yeah, setting a cop car alight is a bit extreme!). I smashed a couple windows growing up, doesn't make me a bad person it was just the stupidity of youth.

Stanley Cup game was lost, suck it up and let the police deal with the troublemakers.
Sorry but I completely disagree with you. Todays youth think they can get away with whatever they want with no consequences. Similar to other stories on here, if I had ever pulled the kind of crap that goes on these days my dad would have made sure I was punished severely enough that I wouldn't do it again.

Today society has gotten so PC that you can no longer smack your kids ass when they deserve it. Kids do what they want with impunity and this is the result. Want this kind of thing to stop? Ensure that those who partake are fully punished for their actions. Make a real example of them (jail time and a criminal record not just a fine and a slap on the wrist) and people will think twice about doing it again.

Can someone tell me what is misleading about the photo?? Hmmm....here you have the young man who did up until now had everything going for him. He has a lighter in his hand a rag stuffing it into the gas tank of the cop car and trying to light. What else would he be doing?

I think his dear daddy has been smoking more than just weed.
Sometimes I wonder what these kids are thinking. Yes I had at one time, one of those children, and my thoughts are what are you thinking. I am glad she grew up and got it together, before she ruined her life before it even really began.

For alot of the people involved in all the distruction, I don't think it is them, I think the the rush of all happening, the thrill, the adrenaline flowing, I don't think drugs and alcohol were in a factor of all involved. It is so sad that such damage occured that so many people did get out of hand. I do think some came with the intent to cause trouble whether the Canucks won or not. The came with an intent to cause trouble.
But now it is history and Vancouver will over come. And hopefully life will go on, and businesses and those innocent people injured in the madness will heal.

Vancouver is a beautiful place, lots to do. Lets not let a few bad apples ruin that.
It just shows one part of the action. Is he trying to get the stuff out or is he really trying to burn the car? A series of photos about that event should be more evidentiary, while one pic is not due to the reason of speculation. Speculation is always a 50/50 which is always arguable!

He tried six times to get the car on fire. Here is the video showing him trying. He has been suspended and kicked off the Water Polo Team. Good!

If only there were enough cops, this just would not have happened. Why they told everyone that booze would not be sold after 4pm, instead of just doing it, is beyond me. And considering the Canucks owner made $14m per home game in the playoffs, you would think they could have pitched in, knowing FULL well, as everyone with a brain did, that a riot was very likely if we lost. If we won, there would have been a lot less apathy towards the destruction. I'm speaking from experience as I was there, and was not as disgusted as I perhaps would normally be, because of the crushing depression stemming from the loss. Since no one was killed, I say just let the insurance companies pay up and fix all these rich people's property, so we can all move on.
