Here are some questions I have not seen discussed.
Do regular pooners get STD blood test?
How often? Are there hassle free clinics in Victoria?
What about the ladies ....what do you do?
Might get some interesting and informative discussion going.

As a first time poster, I found this thread to be the first in which I wanted to leave a reply. As a service provider I know for a fact that a few service providers do not get regular health tests. I am also aware of a one provider working at a certain agencie which should not be allowed to provide anymore given the fact that she is HIV positive. I have done my job in letting the agency owner know of this situation but it is up to the agency to not allow this girl to work. Unfortunately some agencies are more for the money then the well being of their clientelle as the female in question is still working. I have a strong relationship with my clientelle and wouldnt expect anything less than them asking to see my health certificate on a regular basis. Maybe all pooners should start asking for std free certificates.

Perhaps the place to take it up is probably the Public Health Authority at the CRD...

Vanity,

Would you be kind enough to share what STD tests your have run? I recently asked for STD testing when I was at the doctor's office for an entirely different test. All they gave me was an HIV test. Yeah, I hadn't done my research before hand. I mentioned later I actually felt more concerned about other STDs, many of which I heard don't always show symptoms. It would kill me to pass along something to someone else, especially if it was just because I didn't take some simple test. The doctor's response was that if you have never had symptoms (nope), never shared needles with prostitutes (nope), or never engaged in risky practices in third world countries (nope), and your liver was functioning normally (yes, recently tested), then other tests weren't called for. I wasn't really satisfied with that response. But a small amount of research led me more towards agreement than disagreement. Still, I'd rather be confident about not giving someone else an STD than saving myself a few bucks. So, this long-winded rambling is my explanation of why I'm asking something that is personal. Your series of STD tests would be a excellent starting point for researching a thorough battery of STD tests. Otherwise I'm back to the random walk through the web. If you don't feel comfortable with this question, just ignore it, and I'll offer you my sincere apologies.

Does Canada or Victoria require any STD testing for SPs?

Do your clients actually ask to see your health certificate? I think you implied they do, but perhaps you were indicating that you had no problems showing it if they were to ask.

Perhaps better answered by others - is it common, rare, or extremely unusual to ask to see an SP's health certificate?

What is the proper etiquette for asking to see an SP's health certificate? I can't help but feeling it's a rude start to the session, but it certainly should be a perfectly valid part of the initial business agreement. Perhaps the client should say they would like to see the certificate when booking the appointment. Then it would be part of the initial formalities rather than a surprise for which the SP might be unprepared or take offence to. What's your suggestion? There's also the problem that the SP either shows the actual certificate with all her personal data like real name and age, or she shows an altered certificate that could belong to anyone. Perhaps there is some sort of picture ID that accommodates this situation. How does that work?

I don't think SPs ask clients for health certificates. In some places, SPs do an initial inspection of the client for STD symptoms. That doesn't seem to be the practice in Victoria. Is this done surreptitiously? Or are only the most obvious symptoms noticed? I'm sure it must have happened, but are clients ever turned down for suspicious sores or blemishes?

Boy, this has turned into a real grilling. But your insightful reply got me thinking.

Thanks! Again, if I'm getting too personal, I'm sorry.

Modwest,

I have not nor would I de-characterize anybody over the internet (in such a public area). I simply stated to "Darr" that there are a couple of unsafe ladies out there as well as clientelle and in the best interest to both the client as well as the provider proof of health isn't a bad idea. Don't forget this hobby is not the only venue for excitment in which both the sp and pooner play and there are families out there.

Sir Woodster,
Thank you for your information and I will get on it as it has been one month since the facts were given to this anonymous party.

Hennesy,
I get tested for HIV/Aids as well as chlamydia and hepatitis b.There is a more insightful link http://www.pregnancyresources.org/STD.html
and it will help fill you in. If you are having a hard time being tested for certain stds it's time you find yourself a new doctor who will understand your fears. There are a few std's out there with no signs of symptoms so you might want to let the doctor know you are in a "risky" group and demand you be tested. My clientelle has been dealing with me for several years and know how serious I am about staying STD free. I have never been asked about my health until I have offered my approval of good health. It would be rude to ask of someones health credentials but shouldn't safety always be first?
I can't speak for all of Canada but I know BC does not have a regulation where working sps need regular testing. I have been in the game for 12 years and never once had anyone approach me to get tested for mandatory reasons.
I have turned down a few potential clients for obvious blemishes but I may have mistaken sanitation for health .I can't test my clientelle for privacy issues in which I dont want to invade but can double up on condoms and be very cautious in all aspects of our "playtime" together. As long as I do my part then I can sleep at night and play all day.

Personally, I get a full test (PAP smear and bloodwork) every 3 months. AIDS is notorious for not showing up but still being transmitable, and I take no chances. I hate needles, and I hate that little duck-billed thingie worse, but my health and peace of mind is worth it. My GP knows what I do so I don't have to feel weird about booking a check up so often. Plus it lets him know to be extra careful when telling the MDS Lab people what to be looking for. I would rather suffer a slight humilation and embarassment rather than keep my pride and get syphillis or something. Safety first..... ALWAYS

Modwest, I think you are overreacting. I hope you will show the same level of restraint as your predecessor when it comes to warnings, deletions, & exclusions.

I go to the public health clinic where it's totally anonymous, I'm just a number, so they don't give out certificates.
