TV Dramas in North America

Recently I've been noticed that TV Dramas here in North America totally suck deep. They are all starting to get boring. Nothing interesting.
Also, there are no dramas teach the history of Canada.
Compared to my culture (Hong Kong, China), this totally sucks deep.
I don't watch them anymore.
What's wrong with the entertainment business here in Canada?

wow you are watching the wrong shows. The Walking Dead is outstanding! For one. Torrent it asap! United States of Tara for another, Breaking Bad4 soon, The Tudors is brilliant. I could on and on. Do you not have digital?

I am a sucker for all supernatural and mythology heavy shows. The shows I am following: Fringe, The Event, Lost Girl (a Canadian series about a succubus), Haven (another Canadian show based on The Colorado Kid by Stephen King), The Walking Dead, True Blood, Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. I have stopped watching most procedures such as CSI, I hate shows that wraps it up in a neat little bow and force feed you the story.

mercyshooter, the dramas from HK which are usually soaps are just the same old recycled stories over and over again. They borrow from the North American dramas liberally to say the least. I gave up on them long ago...

I bet you wanna watch this one: No Regrets
I'm hooked to watch this one right now.

I know some are borrowed from the NA dramas. However, they add something into it that even NA doesn't have the gut to do it!

Boardwalk Empire is also currently being shown. An absorbing historical drama, with a lot of connections to draw between the Prohibition of the 20s and our current situation. Not to mention quality female nudity from Paz de la Huerta and Gretchen Mol and anonymous ukelele players....

I truly believe that television drama is better now than it has ever been. Current shows, and those coming back...The Walking Dead, Dexter, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, The Tudors, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Big Love. When have there ever been so many entertaining shows available?

Not to mention recent series that gave finished their runs like The Wire, The Sopranos, The Shield, Six Feet Under, Battlestar Galactica, Band of Brothers.....or were rudely cancelled (Deadwood, Rome)

It is almost impossible to keep up with them all.

The only competition for best dramas are British series of the past...Cracker, Prime Suspect, State of Play, I Claudius...

I do agree about the lack of quality Canadian dramas ... Da Vinci's Inquest is one of the few examples we have had.

I was going to add Mad Men, but Big Love is great too. Weeds is also good....not sure about the last two being cancelled or still going.

I just got hooked on the Tudors. HOLY COW, is that ever good!

You go, Lady!

I never know what shows are running. The problem I have is ones that you have to keep watching each week or you have no idea what's going on. That dragons den is interesting. I have only caught it a couple of times but could just go watch it on line. I like those renovating shows but wish they would skip the drama.

Actually i would be happy with non stop documentary and shows that teach you how to do things. You tube is good if you are wanting to learn some thing. I was working on my fridge recently and decided to look up fridge repair. At that point I already had it all apart and knew what was wrong but it was still interesting. Oh and photoshop tutorials are great on you tube. Much easer to watch it being done over reading it. You can also start and stop it in order to work at your own pace.

I guess I think of Weeds as more of a comedy (it is almost finished its current season) -- there are some other entertaining ones on cable, too...Californication, Entourage, Nurse Jackie. I find it is sometimes hard to distinguish between comedy and drama. Breaking Bad is hilariously funny sometimes too.

By the way, The Tudors qualifies as Canadian content due to some multinational financing deal.

I forgot to mention Damages and Justified as decent cable dramas too.

As far as broadcast tv on the standard networks, I do believe that the original poster may be correct...but does anybody actually rely on that any more for good shows?

All of the best dramas on tv are basically soap operas that must be watched from the beginning or they make no sense. Downloading is the way to go, or rent the dvds a year later.

u never watched HBO then...shame on you ahahahaa
some of the chinese dramas are really awesome, but tvb is replayed on same scripts over and over again.
tvb is basically crap after 2000s...
back in the 90s, all the asians countries have tvb drama translated in to their language, it was the shit, kinda like korean drama today, but time has changed.
Even though it's true for what you say about tvb, I still love how they recycle the scripts. It's like another brand new story!

Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, and Rescue Me are all on my PVR list.

I need to go to the video store to catch up on the Madmen series. I like what I have seen from the most recent season.

Otherwise, buy a set of all the Soprano's and you will have hours of excellent entertainment :D

The only TVB I think is addciting is

DIE
Revolving Door of Vengeance
Rosy Business

I dont care if it follows a formula if it got excitment and great acting I'm in.

The only show to take me away every week is gone and that show was LOST. What an escape, hated the final eposide though. I only watch NBC's the Event for American Dramas. TVB is OK, kills some time in the evening but yeah its follows the same formula all the time.

You done watching Rosy Business yet? It's successor, No Regrets, is on already. Go youtube, type in the name and patiently search it thru the pages.
Also DIE 2 has been out already.
You can also download these in the chinese forums. ;)

I watched Rosy Business faster than hell, hours at a time. Havent watch No Regrets, I cannot watch TV on a cpu. And Die2 was lame compared to the first. I'm a hugh tv drama fan in general, after a long day I enjoy zoning out.
