I listened to the 1040 interview with Tom L. He said that management (1040) wanted to move forward in a new direction. There was no mention of tying it to Gillis. He's was doing the Canucks radio for so many years and did a pretty good job. Initially, it was announced he retired but I heard recently it was Team 1040 that made him retire via Mike Gillis? Does anyone know if this is true?
The only thing that makes the situation odd is that he has one year left on his contract. As a result, Team 1040 is effectively paying him for the year he isn't working. If he was doing a poor job, you could see the buyout making sense. However, he was a hit with the listeners so it kind of makes you wonder...especially given there is no clear successor. He's was doing the Canucks radio for so many years and did a pretty good job. I could see Tomlinson in as colour. Knowledge of the game and past player gets you in, but I prefer a guy with a bit of his own personality.Heard many times the team mentioning the ex nhler dave tomlinson as a successor. He's been on the team for a very short time but a decent successor.

i agree.Tom Larscheid got gassed by the Team 1040 to make the Canucks happy. Gillis doesn't want any independant comments from the media carrying his product. Rogers owns 1130AM and is a potential bidder for the broadcast rights. Team 1040 was a piece of crap before getting the Lions/Canucks and their contract is up in one year. They want to have a shot at the bid for the next contract and needed to get rid of Larsheid to prove to the Canucks that they'd toe the line. Most teams in the NHL don't even pretend to have an independent media and just run their own broadcast with homers.
Tomlinson is so conservative and gay...can't imagine him calling out a big goal with any emotion.I could see Tomlinson in as colour. Knowledge of the game and past player gets you in, but I prefer a guy with a bit of his own personality.
