He's was doing the Canucks radio for so many years and did a pretty good job. Initially, it was announced he retired but I heard recently it was Team 1040 that made him retire via Mike Gillis? Does anyone know if this is true?

Probably retired cause he's 70 or so. Not sure i believe the gossip about him being forced out. Im sure most of the people love the guy but i find him annoying. Especially the bingo bango luongo stuff lol

I listened to the 1040 interview with Tom L. He said that management (1040) wanted to move forward in a new direction. There was no mention of tying it to Gillis.

Not that it didn't happen though. 1040 knows who their master is and will continue to appease the Canucks.

The only thing that makes the situation odd is that he has one year left on his contract. As a result, Team 1040 is effectively paying him for the year he isn't working. If he was doing a poor job, you could see the buyout making sense. However, he was a hit with the listeners so it kind of makes you wonder...especially given there is no clear successor.

I think I read in The Province the Canucks (Gillis) leaned on them to get Larscheid out sooner than later.

Who is the replacement doing colour commentary now that Tom has gone?

Larsheid & Shorthouse were probably the best play by play and commentary team in the NHL. Sure Tommy used some goofy alliterations in his lingo but his views on the play and the game were spot on.

This was on wikipedia saying he's replacing tommy larcheid. It's a done deal for the time being and he probably has a long term contract

Dave Tomlinson
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaJump to: navigation, search

David H. Tomlinson (born May 8, 1969 in North Vancouver, British Columbia) is a retired professional ice hockey centre. He played 42 games in the NHL for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets and Florida Panthers. After his NHL career, he went on to play 10 years of professional hockey in Europe. He is now a regular contributor and analyst for Team 1040 sports radio in Vancouver. On June 21, 2008, Tomlinson threw the ceremonial first pitch at a Vancouver Canadians baseball game. On July 29, 2010 it was announced that he would replace Tom Larscheid as the colour commentator for Vancouver Canucks broadcasts for the 2010-2011 season.

I could see Tomlinson in as colour. Knowledge of the game and past player gets you in, but I prefer a guy with a bit of his own personality.

Gillis is a bum don't like the guy I hope he gets fired! Pat Quinn is the best GM in Canucks history Gillis couldn't lace shoes Quinn's let alone be a better GM then him. Hate Gillis as he comes across arrogant. Also to show this guys arrogance rumor has it that he gets paid every time he does any interview segments with Team 1040.

Pat Quinn is too old school. Quinn couldn't draft, had a couple of good years though but the nucks were sooo bad before he got there that it couldn't have gotten any worse

Tom Larscheid got gassed by the Team 1040 to make the Canucks happy. Gillis doesn't want any independant comments from the media carrying his product. Rogers owns 1130AM and is a potential bidder for the broadcast rights. Team 1040 was a piece of crap before getting the Lions/Canucks and their contract is up in one year. They want to have a shot at the bid for the next contract and needed to get rid of Larsheid to prove to the Canucks that they'd toe the line. Most teams in the NHL don't even pretend to have an independent media and just run their own broadcast with homers.
i agree.

listen to Sportstalk with Dan Russel 9 to Midnight on 980 am for an independent view and true critique of the Canucks.

Tomlinson is so conservative and gay...can't imagine him calling out a big goal with any emotion.
Tomlinson should stick with being an "NHL analyst", which we all know isn't a real job, but they think it is...much like a Capologist (spelling?). Talk about BS positions...
Tomlinson just wants to travel with the guys on the road and feel like he is a pro.
