I was wondering what sort of STD Clinics are there to be tested at in Edmonton?

In particular are there any clinics:

1. That do anonymous testing?
2. Check the throat for any STD's?
3. Have the new HIV test like in Vancouver that tells you quite accurately whether you have HIV within 15-20 days of possible exposure?

If no clinics with these qualities exist in Edmonton how about Red Deer or Calgary?

Thanks!

Alberta Health Services STD Clinic

11111 Jasper Ave
Hours 8:45 - 5:00pm
780-342-2300
STD/HIV Information line 1-800-772-2437

It is not anonymous. They will do throat swabs and tests, the HIV test is the normal one I guess, not sure if it's the new test. I'll have to ask next time I'm there.

But it is anonymous! You can choose to be anonymous or have a handle.

Really, I didn't know that. I just told them everything they wanted to know, in fact I'm pretty sure at one point she said that is too much information.

Glad it's anonymous

that's for sure.

I went to Junior High with the nurse that swabbed me.

But she didn't remember me.

Hi manning.is.john

Here is a link to information about the Edmonton clinic.

I don’t believe that they have the HIV test that is being offered to men at the Vancouver clinics. The reason it is offered in Vancouver is because of a 5 year research project.

HIV testing technology is changing all the time. The standard HIV test that is offered at doctors offices in BC is a 3rd generation antibody test. The average window period for this test is 20 -22 days and 95% of people will show detectable antibodies to HIV by 4 to 6 weeks.

The window period is the amount of time you need to wait before getting the test done. It takes time for your body to get these antibodies to a level that can be detected by the HIV test. For people concerned about HIV I usually suggest they get a test 4-6 weeks after their risk and then another test at 3 months.

I believe Alberta is using the 3rd generation HIV antibody test.
