Is it the tough economic times that have caused the pooners to slow down? More and more of the ladies that advertise on CL seem to be attaching their reviews to their ads in order to help generate interest and business. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this too?

Posting reviews in an ad says nothing more than "great marketing skills". They are targeting everyone's attention, and proving their service outshines most ;)

Okay, this is for all the Economists out there, try this one.

All this talk about falling DEMAND (the poor economy) affecting Price is focused on the wrong variable. The key variable that will affect Price in the long run is SUPPLY.

Specifically SP Price will be squeezed by the ever increasing supply of SPs. To me this is the more significant variable in the Supply-Demand-Price equation.

The Internet, in particular, has made it a lot easier for ladies to start this business. And it seems that the young ladies coming in now have comparatively little moral stigma about their work than the SPs had with this industry, say 30 or 40 years ago (or even 20).

I suspect that all this will lead to an ever increasing amount of sexy, young hotties coming into this Field over the next several years (20). The Pooning World in 2025 will look a lot different than today.

What’s this all mean? That over time, there should be better supply, more choice, better service, and better prices in, say 5-20 years.

Sounds good to me!

2 Separate Issues

Using Reviews is equivalent to a testimonial, which is a common and effective marketing tool.

Also, you might be surprised how few people actually know about the review boards at all. Posting one in the ad, or referring to it, brings it to their attention.
May or may not be a good thing lol.

Economic reality

If its true that its that easy, then you wouldn't have to wait to see it, it would already be there.
For every new sp that pops into CL, there is another one that retires (new life, baby, school, not suited to the work, moves away, etc etc)

In the end, there is a finite number of positions to fill because there is a finite number of available clients. They either have to make a go of it full time, which costs a lot more than they might expect it to and is very economically uncertain, or they do it part-time, limiting their availability to potential clients. Often to the extent that they see very few people and don't even make much of an impact.

Plus, certain types of sps are in short supply and will not be replaced by any random female. Dominant, mature, experienced, white, etc cannot be replaced by the asian invasion, for one thing. There will often be a new supply of sps available for the purpose of "getting off", but there is and will always be a limited supply of sps who have skills beyond that.

One lady made a point a few months ago that she had found that downturns in the economy actually demand which increases her business - that when people get depressed that this business tends to be a way to alleviate it.

Some products and services can react positively to downturns in the economy and vice versa. As people start reevaluating how they spend and make substitutions they may cut other spending (ie. vacations) and spend less money closer to home (pooning!).

I don't know if her observation is consistent to the industry, but it is interesting. I would have assumed pooning was a luxury that would be cut in a downturn.
Many see it as a luxery and choose to cut costs in their pooning affairs, and many are forced to continue out of habit and/or addiction.

Some are in denial about how much they spend/month on it.

Some are aware, but choose to ignore it.

The ratio of my regulars who have cut down on visits with me to the ratio of ones who continue including new clients evens out to about the same, (maybe more on the latter).

I think the said lady who mentioned your above statement hit the nail on the head, in terms of vancouver's economy situation and how it is effecting sp's.

Wait until the spring when there's a new crop of hotties coming out of college/university and finding themselves with huge student loans and there are no jobs out there for them.

I think we'll see a (maybe temporary) huge increase in supply and meanwhile demand is going to slow down. It might take a while for demand to slow, but as more pooners find themselves with less cash and start to max out their credit cards etc... their cash flow will dry up and they won't have a choice but to cut back.

Also, many of the girls can absorb being less busy for a while. But when they start to run out of savings, they'll have no choice but to cut prices to keep the money coming in

I think that from about mid summer til the olympic mess we're going to see some interesting changes.
