I actually posed this question in another thread some time ago, but I don't think the Health Nurse saw it. So here it is again:

Is decrease in volume of semen a normal part of aging and, in any case, is there anything that will help to increase the volume?

Sorry about missing your question.

There is good evidence that semen volume does decrease with age. It is a normal change as we get older. One study I looked at compared men under 30 with men aged 50 or older. There was a 20 to 30% difference in semen volume between the two groups. Other clinical studies only showed a 3 to 22% difference between the two groups. This shows there is a decrease in volume as men get older but as you can see there is a large variation of what is a normal decrease.

Factors that influence your semen volume includes how well you are hydrated as well as how often you have ejaculated e.g. if you ejaculate twice a day your semen volume will be less than if you ejaculate once every 3 days.

You will see many products on the internet that say they will increase your semen volume. I have not been able to find any scientific studies that show that any of these products work. They claim that they work but do not offer any references to medical studies that show this. This makes me really suspicious and I would be very careful with such products.

I think sometimes our society is turning sex into an olympic event. The perception is that you can only be having good sex if you have a perfect body, rock hard 10 inch penis and ejaculate 1 cup of semen every hour. These are not within the scope of normal human sexual functioning and people can feel bad when they do not measure up against this myth. This affects men and women.

If you feel something is bothering you about your sex life I would suggest talking to someone with experience in sexual health. Just send me a PM and I can send you some information.
